THE BRIEF
Diana Couture is an Indonesian fashion house that focuses on evening gown design. They entered NYFW 2015 with an Indonesian-themed design featuring Garuda that symbolised boldness and gracefulness. I was appointed as the textile designer and print production to collaborate in this project.
THE DESIGN CONCEPT
TEXTILE ILLUSTRATION DESIGN
My pattern illustration idea was an extension of Garuda as the national emblem of Indonesia. This mighty creature was depicted as a large Javanese eagle instead of an anthropomorphic figure commonly described in mythology. Its stern face looks to the side, emphasizing its strength. The color was derived from the fire-like spirit of Garuda, its initial birth form.
PRINT PRODUCTION
The digital printing result was satisfying after a color-testing process to get the right color on polyester organdy sheer fabric, giving a beautiful grandeur effect for the skirt that enhances the overall look.
